Initiative 100 - Extraterrestrial Affairs Commission (to be voted on at the General Election
Nov. 2, 2010)
Shall the voters for the City and County of Denver adopt an Initiated Ordinance to require the
creation of an extraterrestrial affairs commission to help ensure the health, safety, and cultural
awareness of Denver residents and visitors in relation to potential encounters or interactions with
extraterrestrial intelligent beings or their vehicles, and fund such commission from grants, gifts and
donations?
Dan's View: A very frivolous initiative. One part of me says this is silly, the other part says it would
be fun to vote in such a measure because it is so silly. The one point of the measure that really
makes the decision for me is that it dictates who will sit on the commission and each of the positions
must be filled with various pseudo-scientific types related to alien encounters or abductions. So on
the last point alone I say VOTE: NO
Mayor
John Hickenlooper (D) - currently running for Governor. If he wins, this will be an open seat. He
has said he will remain Mayor while he runs which means he would be eligible for re-election as
Mayor in the unlikely event he does not win as Gov.
Now that Hickenlooper is practically a shoo-in for Gov, thanks to GOP self-implosion, candidate for
mayor are stasrting to raise their heads. We can expect a free-for-all for it. The people who seem
to lining up so far are (and some are only loudly whispered rumors):
Doug Linkhart (D) - City Councilman. Actively running
Chris Romer (D) - State Senator. Actively running
Penfield Tate (D) - former State Senator and previous mayoral candidate. High liklihood
Bill Vidal (U) - Deputy mayor. Will serve out remainder of Hickenlooper's term, when he is elected
